The 2016 Kona Open is now in the past with the Aloha State Championships, 2016 Hawaii Island Open coming in November, in Hilo. The 2016 Kona Open can best described as the tournament that "unleashed the beast"! Yep, Big Island resident and active player, Angie Miyashiro named the tournament such as she unleashed her inner beast, taking 2nd place in the Super RR "B" Division. Angie has been taking lessons here on the Island for years now as well as traveling on the mainland, playing in major tournaments, taking lessons, and going to training camps. This was her breakout tournament so watch out for her in the near future. I want to give huge mahalos to The Maui players that came and played, including Ben Tone, Armadillo, Randy Clark, and Noah Clark. Noah is moving to California very soon and Hawaii will miss him. We have all watched him grow from age 12, 19 now, and mature into a great young man as well as a very seasoned accomplished player. Best of luck to you Noah, in your future endeavors. Mahalo to Carlos Ko for making the trip from Honolulu, showcasing his many skills as well as his great passion for the sport and willingness to play and hit with anyone. Thank you to Ernie for bringing ice and water and having time to pickup lunch for all. Thanks to Greg and Ernie and John Romoa for helping to set up all the tables and barriers. Congratulations to John for playing so well and getting 2nd place in the U-1600RR. The lighting was vastly improved from last year's Kona tournament. Welcome to Ahmed and Randy, 2 new players that will get ratings. See you all in November in Hilo. Aloha!
