Aloha All!
The 2025 Big Island Open is now
history and can be described in one word. COZY
Yes, we had 15 players; 3 from Oahu, 2 from Maui, 1 from Alaska, the rest
from Hawai’I Island. We had 2 juniors and some
seniors, but everyone was competitive and overflowing with the Aloha Spirit. We
had the dominating play from #1 Hawai’I rated player
Carlos Ko, the improved play from Levy, the exciting play from 12 year old Antonio, a great learning experience for new
play Lucas, and the non-quit attitude from John and others toughing it out to
the end.
Huge mahalos to John
Romoa who is essential in getting everything setup, windows covered, and so
much more. Mahalo to Armadillo for helping to move the tables and so much more
and his coming from Maui to be part of this. Huge mahalos to John & Levy
for the absolutely fantastic delicious Asian food,
salads, rice and more for lunch. A super special mahalo to the players that
donated an extra $300.00 which I gave out, in full, as EXTRA prize money to
winners and 2nd place in every event class. All the players really
appreciated that. MAHALO…. Also, special thanks to Rachel for donating all the Yetti items and the bag that all the winners were able to
choose from.
Mahalo to all the
players that supported the tournament and table tennis in Hawai’i. Mahalo to
those that contributed and did not actually play. Mahalo to the spectators that
came and cheered on the players and those with signs…a 1st for our
tournament!
April 26, 2008 was
our 1st USATT Sanctioned Tournament in Hawai’I;
17 years ago! And the 2025 Big Island Open is the 50th Tournament in
