What a fantastic turnout and tremendous group of people, players, and table tennis action this past weekend……Players came from Oahu, Maui, and all over the Big Island. We had players from 12 years of age to more than 70. We had players that were in their first tournament and many seasoned veterans. Players ranged from no rating to almost 2100.

It took an effort from MANY people to make the event a success and the consensus from many was that it was, indeed, a success. Thanks goes out to the Big Island Table Tennis Association, The Hilo Club, The Waimea Club, The North Kohala Club, Table Tennis & More, as well as many individuals including: John Romoa, Pete Petersen, Grezie Petersen, Gloria Chapman, Debbie Winkler, John Buck, Lesi Sekona and his son, & Jeffrey Legge. Please let me know who I forgot as I am sure I forgot some! Also, thanks for financial support to Table Tennis & More, and many individuals that prefer not to be named.

I also want to thank those of you that took the time and expense to come to our Island from the Neighbor Islands. I want to especially thank Alan Kaichi for coming from Oahu, the current number 1 rated USATT player in the State, 12 year old Noah Clark from Maui, and 6 players from the Club at the University of Hawaii in Manoa. Without those players and the others from Maui and Oahu, the tournament would not have been anywhere near as exciting or sensational. Thanks to ALL for participating.

Congratulations to Clyde Young, winner of cash & trophy for winning the Open Elites in an exciting Final’s match against Yen Wen Fang. Congratulations to all the other winners also. It was great to watch the quality of play that has continued to improve since April, 2008, our first USATT Sanctioned Tournament.
