Olympic-level table tennis exhibition today in Waimea
The community is invited to a free Olympic-level exhibition by four
outstanding table tennis athletes from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m. today in the
Thelma Parker Memorial Gym in Waimea. Also attending the presentation will
be Waimea Middle School students in grades six, seven and eight.
Coordinating the presentation is Waimea's own table tennis expert, John
Romoa, who in his other life is a farmer, hair stylist and active
community volunteer.
Romoa has invited Leo Lucas, a native of Holland now residing in Arizona.
Lucas competed on the Dutch National Table Tennis Team before this event
became an Olympic sport in 1988, which means he competed at the highest
level available at the time. And he has invited Matt and LenWinkler.
Matt, at 22, is a recent winner of the Arizona State Sizzler Table Tennis
Tournament and vice president in charge of youth development at the
Arizona Club. He is also a USATT certified coach. Len is Matt's father and a full-time USATT
regional level coach and umpire.
The elder Winkler will be moving to the
Big Island in January to open a club in Hawi with the goal of establishing
the Big Island as a table tennis center.
There is no charge to enjoy this exhibition.
Table Tennis & More has come to the Island of Hawai'i (The Big Island).
We stock an inventory of the top brands of professional table tennis
equipment. In addition, we offer table tennis training lessons, one on one

Olympic sport. Len Winkler, the owner of Table Tennis & More, is a USATT
Certified Regional Level Coach, USATT Certified Referee, and USATT Certified
Regional Level Umpire. Len has been a full time coach since 1997, coaching

in USATT rating.
